Beating Fibromyalgia – Overcoming your Intolerance to Pain

chronic fatigue, tired, fibromyalgia, drug-free relief

If you have a lower tolerance for pain than most people, there may be a good chance you suffer from Fibromyalgia (FMS). The cause of this condition is unknown to the medical community, but it is believed the reason someone who suffers from this condition experiences more pain is because of impairments in how the brain processes sensation to the body.

Sometimes, not only do sufferers of this condition experience physical pain, they also experience mood swings as well, due to their body’s inability to regulate signals correctly.

So, what can you do about it? Well, there are lots of things you can do to help alleviate your suffering. Here is a list of some of those things:

Fibromyalgia Lifestyle Changes

  • Avoid stressful situations
  • Quit Smoking
  • Walking
  • Biking
  • Water aerobics
  • Swimming
  • Stretching
  • Better sleep
  • Apply heat or cold pack
  • Improve your posture
  • Seek emotional support (This will help you avoid stressful situations)

So, with the exception of better sleep, all of these things are things you make a conscious choice to do or not to do. Though, you can’t help whether your neighbor decides to get the jackhammer out of the garage at three in the morning and start digging a well. But there’s probably a good chance they won’t.

Here are some tips to help you get a better night sleep, so you can reduce the pain of your Fibromyalgia even when you’re not awake.

Sleep Tips

  • Go to bed and wake at the same time everyday
  • Don’t drink anything four hours before bed time
  • Avoid alcohol and caffeine
  • Sleep in complete darkness
  • Have a bedtime routine (read before bed)
  • Don’t read or watch TV in bed (Take your TV out of your bedroom)

Of course, the above tips will only help you reduce the pain. The best thing you can do is to seek the underlying cause of fibromyalgia symptoms. Misalignments in the upper neck can lead to an undetected brainstem injury and a lower tolerance for pain. Upper cervical doctors can correct these misalignments in the upper neck and restore proper blood, cerebral spinal fluid and nerve flow from the brain to the body. If you have a history of head and neck injuries is important that you find an upper cervical specialist in your area who can properly evaluate you for an undetected brainstem injury.
