The Suffering of Fibromyalgia Sufferers

When a person suffers from Fibromyalgia, every part of their body suffers. Not only that, but the suffering goes beyond just physical pain and many times people who suffer from this disease suffer psychologically as well as physically. It gets worse in that not only does the patient suffer, but many times so do their loved ones and anyone else who spends much time around them.

Guaifenesin Side Effects

To help people who suffer from Fibromyalgia find relief from their pain, pharmaceutical companies have developed medications to help find relief. One of those medications is Guaifenesin. It supposedly does what it’s designed to do, but there are also side effects that a person should be aware of.

Here’s a list of those possible side effects:

  • Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue)
  • difficulty urinating
  • fast or irregular heartbeat
  • hallucinations
  • seizures
  • severe dizziness
  • lightheadedness
  • headaches
  • Tremors

To reduce the chances of people experiencing those symptoms, the label reads, “Use guaifenesin  exactly as directed on the label, or as prescribed by your doctor. Do not use it in larger amounts or for longer than recommended.” People who take this medication should also be warned that it may impair their thinking or reactions, so they shouldn’t plan on driving or operating heavy equipment after they take it. One general rule of taking this medication is that it should not be given to young children.

The Limited Benefits of Guaifenesin

Of course, there are a few benefits to this drug. It helps loosen congestion in the chest and the throat, such as that caused by a cold or allergies, so as to make it easier for a person to cough.  Guaifenesin also helps expel Uric Acid from the body, which is why it’s been prescribed to people who suffer from Fibromyalgia since the 1990’s.

Though, the results just don’t match the research. That’s why there’s a consumer alert on the Fibromyalgia Network that says people who suffer from Fibromyalgia show not significant difference in how they react to taking Guaifenesin compared to taking placebos.

Relief for Fibromyalgia Sufferers

Though, the good news is there is a way for people who suffer from Fibromyalgia to find lasting relief, and that’s through a gentle and specific type of chiropractic called upper cervical chiropractic. An upper cervical chiropractor can examine the upper neck vertebrae of those who suffer from this disease for any misalignments in their upper neck that may be the underlying cause of their suffering.

When the top two vertebrae in the neck are misaligned by only ¼ of a millimeter, those two bones can place enough pressure on the brainstem to hinder communication between the brain and the body. That can lead to all sorts of health problems, such as Fibromyalgia and more.
