Understanding Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

It’s not that uncommon for people to mistake  Fibromyalgia for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS). Those two conditions have many similar symptoms, and both are conditions that are seen a lot by upper cervical chiropractors. Though, there are differences between them you should be aware of, but knowing the differences means you need to know what they are first.

According to the Mayo Clinic, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is

“A complicated disorder characterized by extreme fatigue that may worsen with physical or mental activity, but doesn’t improve with rest. Although there are many theories about what causes this condition — ranging from viral infections to psychological stress — in most cases the cause is still unknown.   Because its symptoms are difficult to measure, CFS wasn’t widely accepted as a real medical condition for several years. Today, however, doctors and researchers agree that this chronic condition should be taken seriously.”

Recharging the Body

When most people feel tired or fatigues, they rest and get more energy, but it’s not that easy for people with CFS. Think of most people like rechargeable batteries, but people with CFS as non-rechargeable batteries. Rest doesn’t help them, and they need to keep running even though they can’t seem to recharge.

Though, all too often people who suffer from CFS also suffer from an undetected injury to their brainstem. Our brainstem plays a critical role in reenergizing us, so an injury to that can cause chronic fatigue. That means the best way to find relief from CFS is to care for that injury to the brainstem, but that’s not that easy.

Luckily, an upper cervical chiropractor can examine the upper neck vertebrae for any misalignments that may be the underlying cause of your CFS. You will continue to suffer from sleepless night after sleepless and restless day after restless day until you choose to take control of your circumstance, rather than allowing that injury to control you. Come back next week and we’ll look at this more in depth.
