Vertigo and Your Upper Neck

Did you know conditions like Vertigo can arise because of injuries to the upper neck that have never been dealt with. Ignoring those injuries will only cause them to worsen, and that damage to the upper neck may turn into a dysfunction in the ears, as well as the body’s balancing system, and possibly both.

Unfortunately, a head or neck injury can cause the upper neck vertebrae, otherwise known as the upper cervical spine, to twist because of the misalignment of the upper cervical spine. This will then cause the head, which weighs anywhere from 10 to 14 lbs, to move off center with the body.

Then, the bod will go through a process called righting reflex, which is initiated in the semicircular canals of the ears. The body, including the eyes and ears, twists in order to compensate for the misalignment of the top two vertebrae in the spine. This causes pressure on the nerve system.

When Your Brainstem Dysfunctions

Though, it is the area around the brainstem, which plays a significant role in helping a person maintain their balance, that is affected first. The brainstem also provides information via cranial nerves to the ears via the cranial nerves, which help a person to maintain their balance.

For those who suffer from Vertigo, it is often due to a misalignment in the upper cervical spine which is affecting the brainstem’s ability to function. This can be corrected, but doing nothing about it will only lead to more pain and misery in a person’s life.

Overcoming Vertigo

For those who want healing from their Vertigo, seeking out the care of an upper cervical chiropractor is always a viable option. An upper cervical chiropractor is able to examine a person’s neck for any misalignments that may be the underlying cause of one’s vertigo.

If they do find any misalignments, they will make any necessary corrections to realign the spine. Many studies have shown that corrections to the upper cervical spine have resulted in significant reductions and possibly even elimination of vertigo.
