Two very common types of dizziness are vertigo and disequilibrium. Vertigo is the sensation that the person or the things around the person are spinning. Disequilibrium is the feeling that the person is falling or floating and that the floor is tilted. Assistance in getting around Is usually required.  What are some conditions that may cause this to occur?

  • Certain medications: Dizziness is a side effect of some medication, such as those for seizures and depression as well as tranquilizers or sedatives.
  • Neurological problems: Disorders such as Parkinson’s disease and multiple sclerosis can bring on the loss of balance.
  • Vestibular (inner ear) disorders: Proper function of the inner ear affects balance. Anything that affects the inner ear can cause your balance to be off, such as ear infections, autoimmune disorders, and fluid buildup.
  • Sensory processing disorders: If the information that is supposed to reach the brain from one of the five senses is hindered for any reason or the brain is unable to respond properly to them, dizziness can be the result. Autism is one example of this.

Upper Cervical Chiropractic Care for Dizziness

Anyone suffering from dizziness, whether it is from vertigo or disequilibrium, will definitely want to find the fastest and best solution. A natural approach is best because it is not compounding the problem with more medication and harmful side-effects. A great place to start is by seeking the care of an upper cervical chiropractor.

We will use the latest methods to see whether a misalignment of the upper neck may be the underlying cause of dizziness. A problem here can affect the central nervous system, causing it not to function properly. Undue pressure is put on the brainstem hindering communication to and from the brain and the body. Cerebral blood flow and cerebrospinal fluid flow are disrupted leading to such problems as vertigo and disequilibrium.  Once we correct the misalignment, the body begins its natural healing process. Many of our patients have found that their dizziness has gone away entirely.
