Those who suffer from migraines often learn to live with them. It is not an easy thing to do. Migraines are known for intense throbbing and pulsating pain in the head, accompanied by nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to light, sound, and odors, and visual disturbances. Some migraines last for a few hours; Some last for as long as several days. An estimated 37 million people in the USA suffer from migraines, and 18 million have 5 or more migraines a month.
Migraines are as different as each person that has them. What works for one person, may not work for another. Doctors are constantly looking for new ways to help their patients. New and supposedly improved drugs are flooding the market, but once again they do not work for everyone. People are looking for a more natural way to cope with their migraine pain.

One new treatment that some are looking into is that of using medical marijuana (MMJ). Although controversial, it is legal in several states for patients dealing with disabling neurological problems, such as migraine headaches. All of those that have tried MMJ for their migraines report less pain. This is not surprising, as MMJ works on the pain receptors in the brain.
Imagine that pain was perceived in the brain as a loud boom. MMJ is able to reduce the noise by causing the pain stimulation to become less. While this does hold some hope for those with migraines, it still does not address the underlying cause. Therefore, migraines still return. So, what can be done?
The Success of Upper Cervical Chiropractic Care
We focus our attention on whether or not the atlas, or C1 vertebra, is in proper alignment. A misalignment in this area affects the function of the brain stem. If the brain stem cannot properly relay messages to and from the brain, this causes all kinds of health problems throughout the body, including migraine headaches. Once corrected, the body can begin to heal itself as normal function returns. Research has shown that migraine sufferers can see improvement in their condition in only one or two adjustments. Some have had their migraines disappear entirely.
