Headaches in Children/ Adolescents: Is This Normal?

Does your child suffer from headaches or migraines? Have they complained of unrelenting head pain? Do you find yourself giving adult medication to a child to help them get through the day? Headaches are abnormal in children and often the medical solutions for them are limiting or non-existent.

Doing what is best for your child by getting them help and resources can be challenging. Often parents are left with no solution as they watch their child struggle with academics or withdraw from sports and athletics because of their head pain. We all want the best for our children and at Advanced Spinal Care we take care of children and teenagers suffering from unresolved headaches.

When a child experiences a head or neck trauma it can displace the top bone in their spine called the Atlas or C1 vertebrae. This causes brainstem and spinal cord irritation and can be a precursor to headaches and migraines. Because children have ligaments and muscles that stretch further than adults, they often can experience this kind of trauma without experiencing a lot of pain or discomfort. They may appear to “rebound” from a mild concussion or a bump to the head without any obvious symptoms. However, the brainstem irritation from this misalignment can cause altered fluid flow dynamics in the skull. This altered flow is what usually causes headache symptoms.

If you know a child or teenager suffering from headaches, please remember that this is ABNORMAL, and that child or adolescents should be checked immediately by a NUCCA specialist. NUCCA is a non invasive procedure that gently corrects the head and neck alignment, restoring it back to a normal position. This alignment process takes pressure off the brainstem and has helped millions of headache and migraine sufferers find the long-term solution to their ailment.
